The Emperor’s Shadow – A Marcus Valerius Mystery

Tribune Marcus Valerius Celer is thrust into an assignment by Emperor Hadrian in 118 a.d. shortly after Hadrian becomes the new emperor. Marcus is transferred into the Frumentarii legion which is the emperor’s intelligence agency. His mission is to rescue Senator Silanus, the best friend to Hadrian and his biggest supporter in the senate. The senator was abducted by enemies of the emperor that wish to replace him with a more sympathetic man on the throne. Marcus meets the lovely Livia on his assignment but cannot commit his love. The mission is likely to get him killed. He takes his best friend Centurion Glaber to assist with his assignment.
