Bebe Drake began life as Alice Brawley, an orphan fighting to survive in the early 19th century, Plymouth, England. She angered the Mayor of Plymouth by kicking him, after he tried to molest her. She stole his money and ran for the docks. After disguising herself as a young man, she joined a ship’s crew that ultimately placed Alice in the smuggling business. Her brief career as an ordinary seaman, led her to Portugal where she discovered an English diary in the Thief’s Market in Lisbon.
Alice always suffered under the ignominy of mixed blood, so she decided to investigate her own heritage in England. Her journey of discovery led her to believe she was the direct descendant of Sir Francis Drake and a native woman from Nova Albion, the Americas.
With diary in hand, she decided to change her name to Beatrice (Bebe) Drake and make claim to what was rightfully hers, a position in the Drake family legacy and fortune. Bebe had no idea the kettle of trouble she stirred or the violent consequences of one man’s crusade to stop her.
